Definitely the most boring part of the trip. Not that it's boring but you're already in the mental state that all fun is behind and there's only 365 minus 30 days left for the next trip. Luckily there are other trips to do in the mean time but still is has an effect. This time I shared the cabin with some funny Finnish motorcyclist who clearly had ADHD or similar. Few beers in a nice company reminded that there's life outside the trips also :)
Anyway, some numbers!
I didn't have the navigator on all the time so some parts are missing but the tracked part was 4840 km.

Day 29: From Hamburg to Travemünde
If the driving since Slovenia felt forced, now it definitely seemed like it. Since the ferry was leaving around midnight, I did not hurry there but left during the evening. It was dark and a bit chilly and that reminded that this was really the end of the trip, my holidays and the summer. Nothing more to expect than cold, dark and white scheiße.

The only tank you were allowed to enter:
More modern stuff:

Jagdpanzer IV |
StuG III |
Sturmpanzer IV |

Day 28: From Göttingen to Hamburg (via Munster)
Again time to move on. There's no joy in driving anymore since you know that the more you drive, the closer to home you will be. Also there's only autobahn left which is boring but the 'landstraße' are not that much more exciting and using them would take too much time.
On my way I noticed signs to the Deutsches Panzermuseum and I decided that it would be the best way to spend a little break.
Otherwise the there wasn't anything exciting. Couple of rain storms just before Hamburg forced me to stop twice but otherwise the weather was quite okay.

Day 27: Goslar and the Harz mountains
Again not so nice trip. I encountered rain and hail and in addition the temperature dropped below +10 in some parts of the mountains.
I stopped in Goslar to eat but at this point I was pretty much fed with driving.

Day 26: From Peißenberg to Göttingen
The most boring part of the trip. Rain, fields, flat scenery... Oh well, at least I drove through Dinkelsbühl.

Day 24: From Slovenia to Peißenberg (via Großglockner)
As many times before everything good must end and I had to start my trip towards north. I was reluctant to leave, probably because Slovenia was something new and fascinating (and in addition the weather was finally as I was expecting). One last turkish coffee, some Slovenian beer & chocolate to the trunk and I was already on my way :(
This trip was really the hardest both physically and mentally (460 km, 10.5 hours) but also offered some of the greatest views. Because I was in a bit in a hurry, I only stopped in Großglockner to take pictures.
From Stop #1:
After the first stop in Großglockner I also managed to f**k up for the first time during the trip. When I stopped for the second time, I was totally unaware how steep the slope was. I managed to grab Viffer as she fell on the right side but I had no strength to keep off the ground. However I managed to slow her down so impact was rather light. All though without some Dutch couple, I would have gotten hard time to get her up, thank you very much! Luckily nothing was broken and there were only some minor scratches on the side (thank you crash pads!).
Yes, I lied. I did stop to take pictures in other places also ;)
Needless to say, I was really happy to reach Rob & Uli in Peißenberg. There's nothing what a cold Augustiner couldn't heal...

Day 23: Ljubljana
After a long day of driving it was nice to spend one day just walking around in Ljubljana. Just pics, no bullshit:
Few pics from the Dragon Bridge:
During the evening I headed back to Smokuč and on my way I witnessed really spectacular lightning show and also a massive rain shower which forced me to stop in a tunnel. It was really so dense that I could not see anything. Luckily there was room in the tunnel so I could pull over safely.
Prešeren Square |
Some sort of a miniatyre sculpture of the city |
France Prešeren |
Few pics from the Dragon Bridge:
The Sun is just too bright. |
Inside the Ljubljana Castle |
Panorama from the top of the castle |
The parliament building |
Can't remember what this was... looks threatening, right? |

Day 22: The Škocjan Caves, Piran (south)
This day was reserved for a bike trip in the south. The plan was to visit the Škocjan Caves, the biggest cave system in Europe and Piran, an old seaport at the Mediterranean.
On the way south some ambulance driver must have spotted my license plate and/or nationality since he greeted me with some \,,/ ;)
Also I used to some smaller roads "on the way down". However the landscape was far different from the north side where I had been driving two days earlier.
Photographing was not allowed in the Škocjan Caves but I can assure you that the they were big and impressive:

The trip continued towards Piran. I already mentioned how the landscape was different from the north and that is definitely a special thing with Slovenia: in the north (close to Alps) there are mountains and rivers, in the middle there were hills growing with grapes and finally in the south it was really like in a Mediterranean country.
As I might have mentioned earlier, I was not truly blessed with the weather. In Germany the temperature had dropped closer to +10 °C and I was really not prepared for that. But during this day the temperature rised up to +35 °C and I was really sweating my ass off. Luckily in Piran I managed to drop my driving stuff in a tourist office so I could go around the city. Also you're not allowed to enter the city with a car but as I was trying to go in the big parking house before the city, the man at the door just waved that I should enter the city. And so I did since the bike went nicely past the toll booth ;)
Few shots from Piran:
Since it was getting really hot and also I was getting hungry, I decided to move forward towards Portorož where I stopped to take a swim and go to a pizzeria recommended by Polja's parents.

More cooling down |
After this I drove furthermore south towards the Croatian border. However I turned back around the Sečovlje Saltworks. The way back was bit hard since there was heavy traffic till Koper and the Sun was scorching really hard. I took the fastest way to Ljubljana since I was getting tired and it was getting quite late.
